Dear Red Hill Families,

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year. It is with great joy that I write this letter in my fifth year as returning principal at Red Hill Elementary School. Over the past couple of years, the Red Hill community has shown resilience, flexibility, and compassion. For that, I thank you dearly. I hope that you had a restful summer and were able to spend quality time together as a family. Our talented and dedicated educators returned last week. We are excited about all this new school year has to offer and look forward to working with our students and families as we focus on continuous improvement in teaching and learning, and all areas of our school environment. To our new students and families, welcome to Red Hill. We are so glad you have joined our school family!

This year we will renew our commitment to our Albemarle County Public School’s mission and vision in all that we do, with a resolute expectation that all students can and will learn and succeed. We will empower our learners through authentic, challenging, and relevant learning experiences which are grounded in high expectations, networks of care, and student curiosity to ensure academic and social-emotional development. Our teachers, support staff and I look forward to partnering with you in this effort.

Many opportunities that were limited during the past couple of years will be allowed this year. We can hardly wait to bring back some treasured traditions and new experiences. In doing so, we will continue to implement mitigation measures and adjust as needed to ensure that our staff and students’ safety and well-being are prioritized. I look forward to seeing you at school for activities and events.

In closing, I encourage you to become active members of the PTO and the school community. I have an open-door policy and welcome your input and ideas. My ultimate goal is to make Red Hill a school where students feel safe, have a strong sense of belonging, and are empowered to achieve at high levels. It is going to be an amazing year!

Sincerely,

Nancy McCullen, Principal
